This is a continuation of a recounting of my boy's SPY PARTY on his 11th birthday. We've gone through the Recruitment where the kids chose their disguises and aliases. During the briefing, the kids were told to look out for envelopes with the mark of Carmen Sandiego. I grew up watching the Nickelodeon show "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?". I can't remember much of it, but the name stuck, so I used it in orchestrating the kids' mission. They went through training for stealth, precision and problem-solving. Now, we go to the Mission proper... |

It was quite a feat to plan a special party for our boy since the last time we gave him a party was 4 years ago, on his 7th. For some reason, I thought of giving him a party but was concerned at what type of party my tween boy and his friends would enjoy.
Then Google showed me the way and led me to links for A SPY PARTY!!!
Since 2009, my husband and I have been talking about and looking at travel and tour packages for Palawan. Despite all these, we found ourselves up early last Saturday morning to commute from Tanauan City to the NAIA Terminal 3 to make sure we have plenty of time for our flight to... Boracay! Yes, it took just one suggestion from my husband saying he'd like to go the so-called island paradise and I sent a message to my friend who operates a travel and tour agency. She was able to get us very cheap tickets for PAL Express flights via Kalibo, Aklan. Nine (9) months later, there we were waiting at Terminal 119 of the airport to board our flight. I will limit this post to reflect on what I have experienced over the course of our 3-day getaway. I'll dedicate another post for the food, the hotel, and another for tips on traveling on a budget. If only we are really able to divide a couple's married life into definite phases, then each experience would not come as real surprises. My husband and I just recently celebrated our 11th wedding anniversary and, for a moment, we found ourselves at quite a loss as to how we're supposed to celebrate it and what specifically are we celebrating. We eventually found the answer, but before I reveal that (to those who care to know), allow me to explain the "Phase 3" in the title by describing the first 2 phases of our married life.
"Romantic stay for two with a candlelight dinner at Artina Suites in Makati City - Choose 1 or 2 Nights"
Such was the description on the discount voucher I purchased last Feb. 14, 2013 from Groupon (http://www.beeconomic.com.ph/). Meant to be used as a celebratory gift for my husband and I on the occasion of our 11th wedding anniversary, we were not disappointed at all. Of course, it will all start with having realistic expectations in the first place. You don't expect much from a hotel package worth Php3,700, especially when you've paid just Php1,899 for it via Groupon. 1. Reception/ist The first people that guests will meet are, of course, the receptionists. In high-end hotels, the door attendant and/or bellhop will greet the guests. I have always been open to being a fan of John Lloyd Cruz and it’s no surprise that like most Filipino moviegoers, I have watched his latest film, “It Takes A Man and a Woman”, the third installment in the romantic comedy series where he stars opposite Sarah Geronimo. Of course, I laughed heartily, smiled with nostalgia, and bawled my eyes out along with the packed crowd. It was a movie made for the fans – those who have watched “A Very Special Love” and “You Changed My Life” and have empathized for Laida and Miggy, Sarah’s and John Lloyd’s characters in the films. Reflecting on the movie, as I am always inclined to do with every film I watch, I realized why I got hooked with their story. It wasn’t just because of a superficial admiration for the talent of John Lloyd, or the obvious chemistry between the two, or the superb directing by Cathy Garcia-Molina; but it was because of the intelligence and wisdom behind the story and the characters.
